Secondments

Secondments are a great way to support your professional and personal development as well as strengthening key business relationships. Gifford secondments are designed to support your objectives towards chartership status and are usually between six and twelve months in duration. You will experience new working environments, practical challenges and develop valuable transferable skills that will prove vital to your role on your return.

Overseas Volunteer Opportunities

Gifford supports charities such as Engineers Without Borders and RedR, and encourages staff to satisfy their personal aspirations by offering opportunities to participate in UK and overseas development work.

Recent projects include:

  • In January 2008, Gifford supported Barrage Scheme with Jeunesse et Développement and Mali Development Group. The barrage has improved the availability of water at the end of the dry season and enables communal market gardens to produce fresh vegetables, for direct consumption and sale in local markets, to continue throughout the year.
  • In November 2008, Gifford will be supporting a rainwater harvesting scheme in Kot Guan, Nepal. Up to two engineers (with 2+ years’ experience) will lead a small team for GIS surveying and pipe laying, offering an excellent opportunity to really make a difference to an area which is badly in need of genuine engineering experience and sponsorship.
